  • Extensive study on the relationships between paints, solvents, binders & pigments and how they relate to historic structures.
  • Experience using the tools & techniques needed to render traditional finishes for repair or restoration.
  • Practice in creating straight wood grain, heart grain, burl, malachite, Italian & fantasy marble in faux finishes.

  • Extensive review of interior wall finishes throughout history. Including origin, manufacture processes, methods of application and color selection.
  • Repair methods for historic materials. Anaglypta & Lincrusta repair, wall paper recreation via stencil, & color analysis to match new materials.
  • Color application to recreate the appearance of embossed leather, metal, or wood.
  • Hands on study via test panel: stenciling, anaglypta application, historic color palate, paint and glaze application.
